Healthcare Management

The healthcare management program is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for managing in the 21st century healthcare industry. Healthcare managers must have expertise not only in healthcare, but also a working knowledge in key business areas such as operations, accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, leadership, strategy and more.

The knowledge gained from the BBA in Healthcare Management provides you with an excellent foundation of knowledge, skills and abilities for working effectively in a variety of management capacities. You’ll also be prepared to work in various non-clinical, non-management positions within the industry.

There is currently and will continue to be a need for employees educated in healthcare management. The degree is constructed to offer several options by selecting elective classes if one wishes to specialize in public health, mental health, long-term care administration or acute care administration.

The BBA in Healthcare Management degree can also act as a springboard into an MBA in Healthcare Administration, a Master of Public Health or into a clinical degree.

Professional Healthcare Management Training

• The population is aging, so there is currently and will continue to be a need for quality, knowledgeable healthcare managers.
• The program will equip you with the necessary competencies to effectively and efficiently manage others in the industry.
• You’ll study healthcare operations, organizational strategy, medical terminology, information management, healthcare law, medical ethics and more.
• The program will expose you to the natural sciences – including biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology.
• You’ll have the opportunity to engage in a 200-hour internship or an in-depth research project.
• You’ll have options upon graduation, including working in the industry, upward movement if currently employed in the industry or the foundation necessary to pursue graduate studies.

BBA to MBA Program

This accelerated pathway allows you to take classes that count as dual credit towards both your BBA and MBA degrees, giving you the ability to earn a bachelor’s and master’s in just five years, saving you both time and money. Learn about our MBA programs.

Healthcare practitioners from various organizations within the healthcare industry will be your instructors in the program. Real-life current examples, scenarios, and case studies are provided in each healthcare management course. This sharing of work experiences in the classroom is significant, as it bridges the latest healthcare management theory to what you will encounter when working in the industry. The program’s curriculum is also updated regularly to reflect current best practices within the field.

Experiential learning is embedded in the Tiffin University Core curriculum, as well as in the healthcare management curriculum. Experiential learning provides you with an opportunity to be exposed to the industry and to individuals who currently work in the industry.

The healthcare industry is a system. The system includes various components that are interconnected and interdependent. Therefore, you’ll need to be educated on how to think critically, collaborate, be innovative, problem-solve, communicate, negotiate and think globally.  You’ll be given an opportunity to practice these skills in each of the healthcare management courses.

You’ll be offered a variety of ways to showcase your understanding of the concepts, theories and models assigned. You’ll have the opportunity to complete assigned work both individually and as a group. Peer review is also woven throughout the curriculum.

You’ll also be expected to complete a research project that addresses a community issue related to your career path. The project begins at the start of your program and concludes near the end of your learning journey.

Succeeding in a Diverse Healthcare Environment

Understanding and supporting cultural uniqueness is embedded in the curriculum of the healthcare management degree. Needs vary for those served by organizations in the industry, and individuals who work in the industry must be mindful and respect these differences. You’ll be exposed to various case studies and scenarios to analyze and assess cultural uniqueness. Oftentimes, these activities are required to be completed with a group of individuals, hence further offering an opportunity to understand differences.

SAMPLE COURSES

Healthcare Law (HCA403) – This course examines the ever-changing legal trends faced in the healthcare environment. This course will provide the student with the skills necessary to mitigate liability through risk management principles, develop relationship management skills, incorporate employment law procedures, and manage communication.

Healthcare Operations (HCA427) – This course applies planning and controlling concepts to increase the value of the supply chain to the healthcare supplier. Students learn to evaluate and improve processes. Other topics include process selection, process design, theory of constraints, project implementation, capacity planning, lean production, facility location and business forecasting that are unique to healthcare.

Social Aspects of Aging (HCA474) – This course introduces the student to core components and trends in social gerontology. Social, physical, economic, and political viewpoints are taken into account to assess the interdisciplinary nature within the field.
